What is Fascial Stretch Therapy?

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) is a dynamic and effective form of assisted stretch therapy that can help increase your flexibility, reduce aches and pains, improve your range of motion, workouts, and athletic performance.

FST improves flexibility by creating an increased range of motion around each joint. Targeting the fascia, the most prevalent tissue in the body which is also full of nerves. Fascia is found around the muscles, joints, arteries, veins, the brain, and the spinal cord. In the body, there’s a beautiful balance of stability and mobility, and if you can find that perfect balance where the joints are completely stable throughout the range of motion, you build a body that’s least susceptible to injury.

In addition to reducing the likelihood of injury, increasing range of motion, and flexibility while boosting energy. Fascial Stretch Therapy has benefits including:

  • Reduction or elimination of stress

  • Decreased joint aches and pains

  • Greater balance and flexibility

  • Improved posture and mobility

  • Improving circulation

  • Shorter recovery times after exercise sessions

What makes FST unique?

FST is a facilitated stretch, meaning that a therapist stretches your body as opposed to you stretching yourself. In contrast to traditional forms of stretching, FST isn’t just focused on individual or groups of muscles. Rather, it’s focused on how the lines and patterns of our fascial tissue interact with those muscles. By following those lines and planes of fascial tissue, we are able to achieve a greater range of motion with no pain or tension—all while producing an enormously high level of stretch and relaxation. FST is a synergistic approach during which the therapist and client stretch together. It’s not Chelsea stretching someone else—it’s the two of us together stretching that person’s body. Chelsea also adds resistance stretching to your sessions for added benefit to FST.

What can I expect from a typical FST session?

Upon your first treatment, Chelsea will ask specific questions and assess your body based on any pain, or questions you may have. Each session is catered to the client’s individual needs. All treatments are done on the table with two straps. The straps are in place to hold one leg in place, while the other leg gets moved around, this assures a true stretch is occurring. For each stretch session, the client is expected to wear athleisure wear, ie Yoga wear or shorts, and a tank top or t-shirt. Short shorts are not recommended.

Mobility is often improved after the first treatment. Chelsea will give you exercises to help maintain progress after your sessions. Many clients report a decrease in stress, improved sleep, and a significant decrease in pain after their FST sessions with Chelsea.
